New Year Honours
Cdr David ‘Stretch’ Armstrong RN
31 Dec 2024 - MCDO Cdr David ‘Stretch’ Armstrong has been listed for the award of the KCVS (King’s Commendation for Valuable Service) in the 2025 New Year Honours as described in this article on the Royal Navy website.
David, the son of former MCDO Cdr Charles ‘Bertie’ Armstrong OBE, qualified as an MCD Officer in 2005 having served in HMS CATTISTOCK and HMS EXETER. He went on to serve in HMS PENZANCE, HMS MIDDLETON, the Fleet Diving Group and HMS DIAMOND before qualifying as a PWO and serving in HMS MONTROSE, at PJHQ (Permanent Joint Headquarters) at Northwood, and in HMS WESTMINSTER.

His latest appointments have included Command of HMS SUTHERLAND and HMS IRON DUKE which has just returned from a deployment in the Baltic. He receives the KCVS for “a consummate performance” during his stint in Bahrain where he proved to be an outstanding diplomat “combined with his ability to bring the best out of the team”.
David was an MCDOA Committee member back in 2010.
