MWA Southern Area Monthly Dit Session

1 Feb 2025 - Several old connections were renewed between those attending the Minewarfare Association’s Southern Area monthly ‘Dit Session’ last night at the Crown Inn in Fareham.

Schoolie (Instructor Officer) MCD officer Ralph Mavin, an MCDOA member, was drafted in to teach my class of numbskull cadets astro-navigation at BRNC Dartmouth in 1971. Five years later, he was my LMCDO Course Officer at HMS VERNON.

MCDOA member Martyn Holloway, Peter Whitehead, Peter Reader (aka ‘Taff’) and I served together at HMS VERNON as far back as 1973.

MCDOA member Chris Davies was one of my 1st Lts when I commanded HMS BERKELEY at the end of the Iran-Iraq Tanker War in the Gulf in 1988/89.

MCDOA member Bill Kerr and I served together on SNOME’s staff in HMS LONDON during the First Gulf War in 1991.
